Frequent Questions
Have questions? Don’t know if active rehab is right for you?
Check out the FAQ’s below!
What is Active Rehab?
Active rehabilitation is a process where you actively participate in your recovery from injury or illness with guided exercises. Unlike passive treatments, you’re an active partner in regaining strength, flexibility, and function.
Who can benefit from Active Rehab?
Many people can benefit! This includes those recovering from injuries (sports, car accidents, work-related), managing chronic pain, preparing for surgery, or simply wanting to improve their physical fitness and movement patterns.
What’s the difference between Active Rehab and Physiotherapy?
While there’s overlap, Physiotherapy often focuses on diagnosis, manual therapy (hands-on techniques), and pain relief. Active Rehab emphasizes you performing exercises to rebuild strength and function, though many practitioners are trained in both!
What can I expect during my first appointment?
Your initial session will involve assessment of your injury/condition, discussion of your goals, and a personalized treatment plan. We’ll explain everything clearly and answer all your questions.
Will the exercises be painful?
Some discomfort is normal during rehab, but we prioritize pain management. Exercises will be tailored to your tolerance level, and we’ll teach you techniques to manage any soreness. We never want you to push through sharp or unbearable pain.
How long will my treatment last?
The duration of treatment varies depending on the severity of your injury/condition, your progress, and your goals. Your therapist will discuss a realistic timeline with you.
What should I wear to my appointment?
Wear comfortable clothing that allows for easy movement. Athletic wear or loose-fitting clothes are ideal.
Insurance & Billing:
Frequent Questions
Have questions? Don’t know if active rehab is right for you?
Check out the FAQ’s below!
Does insurance cover Active Rehab?
Many extended health plans cover Kinesiology and/or Physiotherapy. We recommend checking with your insurance provider to confirm your coverage details.
Do you direct bill insurance ICBC?
No, Kineticare does not direct bill ICBC. Clients pay directly at the time of service and receive a receipt to submit to ICBC for reimbursement. If your session takes place at a facility like the Sheraton Wall Centre, a $10 + GST facility fee is also charged per visit. Home visits have no additional fees.
I was in a car accident. Does ICBC cover Active Rehab?
Yes! ICBC usually covers 12 sessions of active rehab services following a motor vehicle accident, in the first 12 weeks. We can work directly with your ICBC adjuster to facilitate treatment.
I haven’t exercised in years. Is Active Rehab still right for me?
Absolutely! Our programs are designed to meet you wherever you are, regardless of your current fitness level. We’ll start slowly and gradually increase the intensity as you get stronger.
I have a chronic condition (e.g., arthritis). Can Active Rehab help?
Yes! Active rehab can be very effective in managing chronic pain and improving function for individuals with conditions like arthritis, back pain, or fibromyalgia.
Making Recovery Less of Pain
You’ll work one-on-one with a kinesiologist in a program designed just for your injury and goals. We use real gym equipment and focus on exercises that improve how you move in daily life.
Sessions are available in person or online, and we support clients across Greater Vancouver.
